Lesson 3:
Know where you’re going.Imagine this conversation.
Friend 1: “I can’t wait to go on vacation!”
Friend 2: “Where are you going?”
Friend 1: “I don’t know.”
Friend 2: “Ok…well… when do you leave?”
Friend 1: “I don’t know.”
Friend 2: “Umm…ok…so how long will you be gone?”
Friend 1: “I don’t know.”
Friend 2: [Walking away] “I don’t think you’ll be going anywhere!”
This is exactly how most people are concerning what they want to change in their lives. They know they want things to be different, however, there is zero clarity around how they want this “change” to turn out.
Then the Lord answered me and said,
“Write the vision
And engrave it plainly on [clay] tablets
So that the one who reads it will run.
“For the vision is yet for the appointed [future] time
It hurries toward the goal [of fulfillment]; it will not fail.
Even though it delays, wait [patiently] for it,
Because it will certainly come; it will not delay.
Habakkuk 2:2-3
For each area of your Life-Collective, you need to have a vision for the improvement, wholeness, and success you want to see.
Answer these questions to help create your vision/goal/outcomes:
- “How would my life be if this area of my life was transformed into God’s best?”
- “How would my thought-life be like?
- “What would I have to believe about this area of life to see the best?”
- “What emotions would I need to experience on a regular basis to enjoy God’s best in this area of life?”
- “What daily actions would I normally take on a regular basis to enjoy God’s best in this area of life?
The point is to get you to see the change with consistent clarity and to know exactly where you are headed in life.
Important points:
- Pursue what God supports. (Just in case you’re wondering what God supports. God supports you in thriving spiritually, relationally, mentally, physically, emotionally, financially. He supports the best for you in every area of your Life Collective.
- Vision forces you to course-correct
- Vision breeds meaningful action.
A few more thoughts:
Vision, here in our Renewal context, really isn’t about finishing or completing something. I want you to understand that this is about developing a new way of living. Renewing your mind and transforming your life will become something that you will do for the rest of your life.
You will always experience opportunities for growth disguised as new challenges, but you don’t have to run away in fear of them. You can boldly overcome them because you are learning now that you have the power to adapt and renew to become the person who can always overcome.
I’m so excited for you and all that you are going to accomplish in your life!
Let’s move on to the next session.
